You love to decorate your home. Going to your local furniture store can be a thrilling ride. But sometimes the many different types of décor that are available can clutter your brain and make things confusing. Everybody wants their home to reflect their personal tastes or exude their individual personality. But there is the possibility that it can go very, very wrong. We’re going to let you know what the top five worst mistakes are when looking for Jacksonville home décor.
1. Picking up everything that catches your eye
We totally get it! You love it and you have to bring it home with you. We’ve all been there. That cute cat painting speaks to your heart—you just can’t rid yourself of their adorable faces. This is one of the worst mistakes we have seen people do. When shopping for décor it is okay to find pieces that spark your interest, but be sure that they will flow with the look and feel of your home. Maybe save the cat painting as a gift for your grandma.
2. Not sticking to the theme of your existing décor
Obviously you can’t just throw away every existing item of décor in your home. You spent time and money on those! If your home is already painted a beautiful, bold red, make sure the décor matches. Think back to elementary school when you were taught complimentary colors. Green is red’s complimentary color. We suggest that if you’ve already got a bright red accent wall to keep your furniture in neutral colors such as black, white or brown then adding pops of green to your décor.
3. Holding on to old décor that doesn’t match
I know, I know—we did just say to not throw away your past investments. But sometimes it has to go: such as the worn-out throw pillow that’s becoming an eyesore and losing its fluff. If you just can’t seem to let it go, maybe see if you can place it in a different room in your home. It’s possible to restore old items, too. Adding a fresh coat of paint or re-upholstering furniture are just two quick and easy ways to keep those beloved items around for even longer.
4. Decorating according to the newest trends
We love trends and we follow them, too. But when it comes to decorating your forever home, you don’t want it to become outdated quick. Remember how fast wallpaper became obsolete? If you like to stay up-to-date, shop around for cheap items that can add some new flair. Adding bright, faux flowers in quirky vases can be a great way to quickly update your home—totally pocket-friendly!
5. Not expressing yourself
Not adding a touch of your personality can make your home seem impersonal to your guests. Adding DIY photo frames can effortlessly personalize your space. Are you traveling soon? Save up some cash to purchase one-of-a-kind art that will accentuate your style. Jacksonville home décor can help you to add your own personal touch.
