Microfiber: Style and Function
What makes microfibers such a great choice for furniture? They’re beautiful and functional. It’s all about holding their shape, having tremendous durability and powerful stain resistance!
Microfibers are actually very fine fibers that are woven together very tightly. That’s what gives them body and a depth to the fabrics from which they are made. Microfiber fabrics drape very well, are light and very fine, but not at all flimsy. It’s performance with beauty.
The fibers are actually one-third the diameter of cotton, one-quarter the diameter of fine wool, and one hundred times finer than human hair. “Denier” is the term used to define diameter or fineness of a continuous or filament fiber such as silk or man-made fibers. Denier is the weight in grams of a 9000-meter length of fiber or yarn. The higher the number, the thicker the fiber. In order to be called “microfiber,” it must be less than one denier. Fine silk is about 1.25 denier. A microfiber needs to be 0.9 denier or finer.
But enough about the technical aspects of microfiber. What is important to you and me is that it drapes beautifully, wears extremely well, and is a breeze to clean. Once you own furniture with microfiber, you are likely to become a microfiber enthusiast, telling everyone you know about how wonderful it is and how you don’t know how you managed before you got it. Especially if you have pets or kids.
Today, you can get microfibers in the look and feel of suede, leather, even cordoroy. So, with microfiber you’ve got the best of all worlds.

The first time a felt a sofa with microfiber, I couldn’t believe it. It felt like the softest leather. And looked like it, too. But the best part really is the way it cleans up. I’m one of those believers!
